2010-Present

2024 - Jon Mann and Michigan Blue

In the ongoing saga of the Jon Mann – Mike Collins wear the colors of the winner of the Ohio State- Michigan game, Jon once again had to lead an assembly wearing Michigan garb while Mike gleefully played the Wolverine's alma mater in the background.  While Jon was excited to tear off the Michigan shirt, the campers were even more excited when they saw him painted in orange and black.

2023 - Adam Farago in the Dining Hall

2022 - Robin Nathan and the 115th Anniversary picture

Adam, a beloved support staff member from Hungary, was proud to stand in front of the flagpole when his country’s flag was raised that morning as the Hungarian national anthem was played. At lunch, he was then called up by Jon to recite Grace in his native tongue. Instead of grace, he
ripped off his shirt and screamed Color War.

At the end of picture day, which wasn’t scheduled until the 3rd week of camp, Robin Nathan asked the entire camp to sit for one last picture with an anniversary poster. As is the case seemingly too often, it was brutally hot and everyone was baking. While the groaning continued as the Coffee Pond photographer took one picture after another, no one seemed to be bothered by the heat when Robin then broke color war.

2021 - Lodge '20 Campfire

In our summer of two Lodges, Lodge '21 held their campfire at the traditional time at the end of our July 4th celebration. Lodge ’20, at camp for the first 4 weeks, held theirs when they returned from the Allagash a few days before visiting day. While the campers listened silently and intently Lodge '20's thoughtful and poignant speeches, their moods changed dramatically when, after the
final member had spoken, the Lodge together took off their shirts and were covered in paint.

2019 - Sausagefest, Big John

Big John, dressed as the King of Sausages, with Bebe and Ricky as his faithful attendants, read from a proclamation and presented a platter of Chinese sausages that were a gift from Hannaford’s after a mistake with the Sausagefest order the week before.

2018 - Uncle Stan's Birthday, Adam Hirsch

While the boys were looking forward to a piece of cake in memory of "Uncle Stan's" birthday, they were much more enthused by the sight of grandson, Adam, emerging from a fake one. A repeat of a break on Aunt Barbara’s birthday in 1991.

2017 - Coffee House, Adam "Buckets" Cyr

For the first time since the days of the Tone Rangers, the break occurred at the end of Coffeehouse when Buckets emerged from behind the curtain at the end of the 8 year olds act that he had been a part of.

2016 - Surprise, Surprise, Taylor Landry

Toward the end of flag lowering, Taylor jumped out of the garbage can next to the dining hall doors on the junior end that he had been hiding inside for the past half hour.

2015- Tree Crash, Marcin Gawron

Toward the start of afternoon assembly, after Jon Mann expressed great annoyance to the crew that was noisily cutting down a tree in front of bunks 29 and 30, Marcin responded with the break.

2014- Breakfast Break

One morning, a Lodge member was bringing big tray up to the slide when Dave “accidentally” smacked it out of his hands. After the tray dropped, he yelled color war. Moments before morning assembly, The Lodge proceeded to “re-break” color war by playing electric powwow over the loud speaker and running around the assembly area.

2013 - Pizzaaaa, Nick Moore

2012 - Jon Mann, Graeme Pratt

Leading into summer, the video-sharing social platform "Vine" took off and Andro dedicated an evening activity to Vine night. In the Lodge section, Yusuf was asked, "What's for dinner?" Campers expected his response to be "Pizzzzzzaaaa," a summer-long inside joke… and it was… but then, "And now for desert" flashed across the screen and the Vine cut to Nick Moore at the desert standing around 50 yards away, moving forward rapidly, towards the audience watching the video. The campers, somewhat confused, fell silent for a split-second, until Nick stormed out from behind the screen as the Vine ended.

After a Lodge inspired commotion in the dining hall, a “we’ve got spirit” chant at the parade grounds, and a fire drill at morning free, anticipation was high. At lunch, the Lodge began a game of "telephone," per Schnur's request. Once the cheer reached the counselor at the table, he called for Jon Mann, rather than passing it on to another Lodge member. Camper boos quickly turned to cheers when Jon and Graeme emerged skipping from the kitchen. Last done in 2001.

2011- Jesse Harlan, Peter Liebman

Throughout the summer, Jesse was known to sometimes raise his voice at campers for behaving poorly. One night at evening assembly, Peter, a baseball counselor, was talking and Jesse started yelling at him. Heather pulled Jesse aside and tried to calm him down, walking him towards the other side of the program office. A few minutes later, Jesse, who clearly had not calmed down, shouted “no, they need to hear what I have to say” and came sprinting around the program office, painted in O&B.

2010- Lodge, We Want Chef

In anticipation of their fake break, the Lodge began a series of dining hall cheers.  Several cheers in, they reached “we want chef.”  The 15’s were planning on two of their own jumping out from the kitchen. Much to their surprise, their Lodge counselors, who had gotten wind of the fake break, arranged for the advisors jump out for the real one instead.
